The DEEP consortium aims to gain evidence-based and contextualized knowledge for an equitable and sustainable digital transformation in Swiss elementary school. The focus is on identifying the opportunities, challenges and risks of digital change in primary school education. The knowledge gained is to be integrated into the school system, teacher training and further education as well as education administration and policy in the long term.
The DEEP consortium, supported by the Jacobs Foundation, is an association of seven universities that reflect the institutional, disciplinary, methodological and geographical diversity of Swiss educational research. The consortium’s coordination office is run jointly by the PH Zürich and the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
In recent months, three members of the consortium have given valuable insights into the potential and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) in education in interviews.
In our podcast “Schampar digital”, Kenneth Horvath sheds light on the influence of AI on equal opportunities in school education, the role of bias in performance assessments and the responsible use of AI in schools.
Damian Haas talks to Beat Döbeli Honegger in the “Bildungsreise” podcast about machine learning, its impact on schools and how children can develop essential learning and orientation skills despite digital tools.
In an interview with Educa, Tobias Röh sheds light on the potential and risks of AI in schools, from the relief provided by automation to challenges such as algorithmic bias and technological hype.
In this video, Kenneth Horvath presents the aims and importance of the DEEP consortium.
