Can algorithms make fair and just decisions? This question is explored in four short films that ZHAW researchers have created in cooperation with “AlgorithmWatch Switzerland” and which can be seen from 11 February 2022 in the “Planet Digital” exhibition at the Museum of Design Zurich.
Whether in job applications, the assessment of prisoners, the allocation of social welfare or the grading of pupils: artificial intelligence has long been part of our everyday lives. Often, without really knowing about it, algorithms decide on important things that affect people’s lives. But when AI is able to make such relevant decisions, the question arises as to how fair they are to those affected and whether certain social groups are thereby favoured or disadvantaged: social justice is at stake. The ZHAW exhibit “(Un)-fair Algorithms” in the “Planet Digital” exhibition revolves around these questions.
