Hospital-acquired pneumonia is a common and serious complication for patients who are not intubated. They increase the risk of dying in hospital, prolong hospital stays and cause high healthcare costs.
But the good news is that many of these pneumonia cases can be prevented with targeted preventive measures. Regular oral hygiene and sufficient exercise (mobilization) have proven to be effective means. In the hectic hospital routine, these simple and effective measures are sometimes overlooked or not systematically implemented. Although many patients could carry out these measures themselves, they or their relatives are rarely informed about the preventive aspects and directly approached to participate.
This is where the citizen science project “PPP – Patient Partnership for Prevention” comes in. The aim is to actively involve patients and relatives in prevention.
Your perspective is valuable: by participating in the project, you can make a decisive contribution to the development of needs-based and effective prevention measures. Get involved as a citizen scientist and actively contribute to the development of innovative solutions!
You can find more information about the project and how to take part on the project page.
The project is funded by Citizen Science Zürich and is being implemented by the Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care (IfIS) at UZH, the Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Hospital Hygiene at the University Hospital Zurich, the Digital Health Design Living Lab and the ZHdK Institute for Design Research (IDR) at ZHdK.
The Digital Health Design Living Lab is a structure funded by the DIZH innovation program.
