DIZH bridge professor Roland Meyer as a guest on SRF’s “Kulturplatz” program

How can archives become “vaults of truth” in a world in which the past can be regenerated and combined by AI?

Patrick “Karpi” Karpiczenko and Roland Meyer, DIZH Bridge Professor for Digital Cultures and Arts at the University of Zurich and the ZHdK, explored these exciting questions. Their inspiring conversation took place in the archive rooms of the ZHdK.

SRF’s “Kulturplatz” broadcast the exchange as part of its “AI and Us” theme week – watch the report on Play SRF.

Other DIZH researchers were also represented at the SRF theme week “AI and us” from November 17 to 24, 2024. The theme week was dedicated to the potential and challenges of artificial intelligence.

On November 21, interested parties had the opportunity to ask their questions about AI directly to 30 experts in a large live chat from 09:00 to 23:00.

Among the participants were:

  • Prof. Jürgen Bernard – Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Zurich and head of the Interactive Visual Data Analysis (IVDA) group. He is a member of the Digital Society Initiative (DSI), UZH’s interdisciplinary and cross-faculty research initiative.
  • Prof. Fabrizio Gilardi – Professor of Policy Analysis at the Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich. His research examines the impact of digital technologies, in particular artificial intelligence, on politics and democracy.
  • Dr. Thilo Stadelmann – Professor at the ZHAW in Winterthur and Head of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence. He researches AI systems for use in areas such as industry and medicine and is intensively involved with the social aspects of the technology.
  • Grit Wolany – Art Director and AI Scout at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). She deals with generative algorithms and teaches at various universities as well as leading workshops and lectures on GenAI.
