At the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos, numerous topics were discussed, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to overcome protectionism.
Dr. Ning Wang from the Digital Society Initiative of the University of Zurich emphasized that many countries view data as a critical national asset and seek to regulate its cross-border flow. She pointed out that harmonizing data protection laws is a challenge, especially with sensitive data like health records or sensor data from autonomous vehicles. International standards could foster collaboration and address sovereignty concerns. Technological advancements such as encryption techniques and policy measures could support responsible data sharing.
