Education program
The education program is one of three DIZH funding programs. It aims to act as an incubator for teaching development in the digital transformation at universities over a period of 10 years. It also promotes collaboration between Zurich’s cantonal universities to enable innovative developments in teaching. This creates optimal conditions for using and benefiting from the potential of the digital transformation for education.
These programs, projects, and educational initiatives are funded at the universities from the DIZH special credit:
- Studium Digitale: Basic digital literacy from an interdisciplinary perspective / for bachelor students
- Minor Digital Skills: Minor with digital focus for master students
- Higher Education Didactics / Teaching Tools: Innovative further development of teaching at UZH / overall university use of digitalization of teaching and learning, e.g. blended learning settings, forms of e-assessment, development of consistent curricula
- E-Assessment & EPIS: Electronic audit support
- Digital Education Services: ZHAW digital promotes flexibility, individualization in the sense of lifelong learning, on the digital campus, through the production of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) and the teaching of digital skills for students, continuing education participants and employees.
- ZHAW Education Support: Exploratory projects to promote and support digital transformation in education.
- Digital Skills & Spaces: The ZHdK strengthens and cultivates competencies for the digital age and develops contemporary workspaces for this purpose. So that members of the ZHdK can position themselves and shape their everyday digital working lives – in a self-determined, reflective and enjoyable way.
- Digital literacy in university contexts: Using artificial intelligence to improve literacy skills.
- digibasics: Basic competencies for students in a digital society
- LeLa – LernLabor Hochschuldidaktik: Higher education didactic innovation processes and development projects for digital skills of university teachers in the digital age. Note: LeLa is a cooperation project of ETH Zurich, PHZH, UZH, ZHAW, ZHdK and is funded by the universities and swissuniversities. The PHZH additionally finances LeLa with funds from the DIZH special credit.
In 2022, the Coordination Committee Education Program was established to support the Zurich universities in networking and to give visibility to their respective projects. The committee consists of three representatives from each DIZH partner university (UZH, ZHAW, ZHdK, PHZH). It is actively involved in the fields of coordination, exploration and communication.
At the plenary event, the Coordination Committee Education Program provided information on current developments for teaching and learning in the age of digitalisation and showed how innovative approaches are being promoted through cooperation with various stakeholders.
KOORDINIEREN
In the field of action Coordinate, the committee has set itself the task of creating synergies between the activities of the partner universities in the Canton of Zurich, talking to each other and exchanging information. This is done through three functions: The committee establishes itself as a point of contact and a map is created from the knowledge generated. Finally, the impact can be ensured beyond the term of the DIZH and sustainable collaborations can be established.
- The committe brings together actors in education promotion and promotes targeted networking.
- It offers a contact point for interested parties by providing information and creative reports (“evaluations”) of DIZH education projects.
- The committee locates and presents the university’s activities to enable effective coordination.
- It provides a database with search functions (in progress).
- The committee identifies cross-university networking opportunities in the area of digitization.
- It does not act as an independent funding body, but functions as a community that makes statements and can be consulted without impacting assessment.
- It provides an external perspective on educational projects.
EXPLORING
The Exploring field of action serves as a place of diversity for the committee to gather the potential of individual projects at universities and to jointly investigate the potential of competence development in the context of education and digitization. In a first part, existing programs, projects and initiatives of educational support at the universities are recorded and discussed. In a further step, synergies and future milestones will be identified.
COMMUNICATE
In the Communicate field of action, the committee ensures that the initiatives and individuals in the education program are made visible. This is achieved, for example, through joint events to promote exchange and networking.
Effective communication is particularly important for cross-cutting issues in order to support actors in networking their projects.
